Scott Hagarty
Trumpet Performer and Educator
About Me

Dr. Scott Hagarty was recently hired as Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Tennessee Tech University. He was previously the Associate Professor of Trumpet at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dr. Hagarty is a versatile musician with experience performing in classical, jazz, new music and early music styles. He is currently principal trumpet of the Bryan Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Brass Arts Quintet, both in residence at TTU. He was previously a member of the Corpus Christi, Victoria and Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestras and has performed with the Victoria Bach Festival Orchestra, Orchestra Iowa and the Rochester Symphony (MN) among others across the United States. As a chamber musician he was a member of the Corpus Christi Brass Quintet, Aurora Brass Quintet and the Del Mar College Faculty Brass Trio. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at several national and international music conferences including at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, Texas Jazz Festival, Big 12 Trombone Conference and at the International Trumpet Guild Conference.  Dr. Hagarty also has many freelance credits to his name performing jazz, chamber music, church music and wind band music in Iowa, Connecticut, Minnesota and Texas.

An avid supporter of new music, he has commissioned and premiered new works for brass by James Stephenson, Erik Morales, Sy Brandon, Roger Petersen and Heath Mathews. Dr. Hagarty earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree with a minor in jazz studies from the University of Northern Iowa, Master of Music degree in trumpet performance from Yale University, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance with a secondary area in music theory from the University of Minnesota. His primary trumpet teachers include Dr. David Baldwin, Gary Bordner, Allan Dean and Dr. Randy Grabowski.

He is an active member of the International Trumpet Guild serving as chair of the Social Media Committee and on the Membership Committee. He maintains the newly relaunched Trumpet and Brass Programs Database . Dr. Hagarty also has several publications in the ITG Journal and serves as a regular music reviewer, recordings reviewer, and conference reporter.
