About Me

Dr. Scott Hagarty is Associate Professor of Trumpet at Del Mar
College in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he teaches studio trumpet,
directs the MWF Jazz Band, Del Mar Trumpet Ensemble and teaches
additional courses in the music theory area. Recognized as an effective
teacher, his trumpet students have earned positions in the Texas
Community College Band Director's Association All-State Concert and Jazz
Bands, and have successfully transferred into universities across the
state of Texas. In demand as an educator and performer, Dr. Hagarty has
served as a clinician and adjudicator in Texas Region 14, and has given clinics and performances at numerous high schools. He has performed at the
Texas Music Educators Association Convention, Texas Jazz Festival, Big
12 Trombone Conference and at the International Trumpet Guild

Dr. Hagarty is a versatile musician with experience performing in classical, jazz, new music and early music styles. As an orchestral musician, Dr. Hagarty is a member of the Corpus Christi and Victoria (TX) Symphony Orchestras and is on the sub-list with the Mid-Texas Symphony. He was previously a member of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony in Iowa and has performed with the Victoria Bach Festival Orchestra, Orchestra Iowa and the Rochester Symphony (MN) among others across the United States. As a chamber musician he is a founding member of the Corpus Christi Brass Quintet and performs regularly with the Del Mar College Faculty Brass Trio. He was formerly a member of the Aurora Brass Quintet, in residence at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a freelance musician Dr. Hagarty continues to perform frequently in the South Texas region with ensembles and organizations like the Corpus Christi Chorale, Harbor Playhouse, Corpus Christi Municipal Jazz Band, Glynn Garcia Big Band and at the Corpus Christi Cathedral among many others.

An avid supporter of new music, he has commissioned and premiered new works for brass by James Stephenson, Erik Morales, Sy Brandon, Roger Petersen and Heath Mathews. Dr. Hagarty earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree with a minor in jazz studies from the University of Northern Iowa, Master of Music degree in trumpet performance from Yale University, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance with a secondary area in music theory from the University of Minnesota. His primary trumpet teachers include Dr. David Baldwin, Gary Bordner, Allan Dean and Dr. Randy Grabowski.

He is an active member of the International Trumpet Guild serving as chair of the Social Media Committee and on the Membership Committee. He maintains the newly relaunched Trumpet and Brass Programs Database . Dr. Hagarty also has several publications in the ITG Journal, and serves as a regular music and recordings reviewer as well as conference reporter.
